What is Lipidure?

Cosmetic ingredients for skin care and hair care with high moisturizing effect

Lipidure® is a biocompatible polymer consists of 2-methacryloyloxtethyl phosphorylcholine (MPC: the bellow figure) which has the same structure as polar group of phospholipid*, showing high hydrophilic nature and extremely low toxicological data. Also, since MPC can be co-polymerized with other monomers in order to adjust to the purpose of use, Lipidure® is useful for wide variety of applications such as cosmetic ingredients, eye care ingredients, oral care ingredients, and coating material of medical devices. On this page, we will focus on specific Lipidure® designed for cosmetic ingredients such as skin care, hair care and make-up emphasizing its high biocompatibility and high moisturizing effect.

Lipidure® is made from MPC monomer.


Why is Lipidure® so biocompatible?

Cells are the smallest units constituting a living body and engage in diverse activities to sustain the life. Cell membrane which separates inside and outside of the cells plays important rolls such as homeostasis of the cells, selective permeability of substances, and inter-cellular communication. The cell membrane is consisted of phospholipids which has hydrophilic head (phosphorylcholine: yellow cube in the bellow figure) and lipophilic tails (orange bars in the bellow figure). Lipidure® has the phosphorylcholine in its molecule as illustrated in the bellow figure. Lipidure® is, so to speak, a mimic cell membrane and this molecular structure is the key for high hydrophilic nature and extremely low toxicity of Lipidure®.
